Municipal FAQ

When are property taxes due?

One tax bill for the entire fiscal year is mailed in mid-July. Taxpayers can choose to pay the bill in full or pay in four quarterly installments. Quarterly installments are due August 15th, November 15th, February 15th, and May 15th. Interest charges are assessed for late payment and an 8% penalty fee is charged on all unpaid taxes after May 15th.

When are sewer assessments due?

Sewer charges are now billed on a quarterly basis. The bill that is due on August 15 is mailed with your property tax bill. All other bills are mailed 30 days prior to their due date.  Delinquent accounts are assessed an 8% penalty in addition to 1.5 percent interest per month.

When and where can I drop off trash and recyclables?

Wednesday, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Saturday, 8:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Recycling Center on West Street. More information.

Where can I dispose of yard waste?
The Vergennes Stump, located at the end of Canal Street, accepts yard waste and brush. Clean, unpainted or unstained wood only. No construction debris, no branches limbs or tree trunks larger than 4″ in diameter. In May, open each Saturday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. From June to October, open 1st Saturday of each month. Vergennes Residents Only.

For a fee, your yard waste and brush are accepted at the West St Recycling Center during their hours of operation (seasonally) listed above. More information.

You also have the option to burn yard waste on your own property but will have to call the Fire Warden to get a burn permit (Jim Larrow 989-9652 or Jim Breur 316-2067).

When is the Sam Fishman Pool open?

When are dog licenses due?

Dog licenses are due on or before April 1 of each year. If April 1 falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday when City Hall is closed, the due date is the last working day prior to April 1. Questions may be addressed to to the City Clerk’s office at (802) 877-2841.
