The purpose of the public hearing is for the City Council to hear and receive testimony regarding the comprehensive amendments to the Vergennes zoning and subdivision regulations as proposed by the Vergennes Planning Commission. A copy of the full text and accompanying map is on file in the City Clerk’s office for public examination.

Statement of Purpose:

The purpose of re-writing the zoning regulations is to bring the regulations in conformance with the municipal plan. The purpose of re-writing the subdivision regulation is to clarify the procedures and to incorporate them into a single document of land development regulations.

The entire area of the City of Vergennes is affected.

The VERGENNES JUNIOR FISHING DERBY sponsored by the City of Vergennes, the Vergennes American Legion family and area businesses will be held June 22-24 at the Vergennes Falls Basin.This event is FREE for all kids ages 3-15. Fishing will be FRI 5am-8pm, SAT 5am-9pm, and SUN 5am-10am. Free Bait, tee shirts, and other goodies while supplies last.

FRIDAY will be a day full of fishing from 5am-8pm!

We'll end the night with a Karaoke Dance Party from 6:30-8pm.

SATURDAY will be a day full of events featuring Lure Taping, Bobber Bob and the First Annual Bobber Race – just like the Rubber Ducky Race, but with Bobbers, Let's Go Fishing booth, Lion's Club BBQ, and Obe White with Cloud Nine Charters will be giving boat rides. We'll end the day with a Basin Street Dance featuring the Revelators from 7-9pm.

SUNDAY we'll wrap things up with fishing from 5am-10am then cleanup until 11am. After the scores are all tallied we'll meet at the Vergennes American Legion for the Pizza Party and Awards Ceremony at 1:30.

ONGOING- Special Prizes and giveaways along the banks throughout the Derby. George from Big River Bait and Tackle will be there for all your angling needs. Check out his great supply of bait and tackle. He even sells ice for your coolers!

Mr. Ed has retired but we are searching for a similar type of food van to be down there all weekend as well.

**Due to damage caused by Hurricane Irene and the rising cost of keeping the Derby FREE and SAFE for all participants, CAMPING WILL NO LONGER BE ALLOWED during the Derby. There is a City Ordinance that closes both sides of the basin at sunset and that ordinance will be strictly enforced. Anyone caught on the premises after hours will be disqualified from the Derby. Please consider Button Bay State Park 802-475-2377, River's Edge Campground and Cottages 802-475-2700, or Hillcrest Campground 802-475-2343 as an alternative.

PRE-REGISTRATION will be May 12th from 10am-2pm at the Children's Fair at St. Peters Parish Hall. Also from May 14th-June 8th at Addison Outfitters during regular business hours, and on June 9th at Day of Baseball at the Legion from 10am-3pm. Pre-registering guarantees you will get a free tee-shirt and have express check in when the Derby starts.

Notice is hereby given to the residents of the City of Vergennes, owners of land within said city, and other interested persons and parties, that the Vergennes City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 7 p.m.in the Vergennes Fire Station Meeting Room as required by 24 V.S.A. § 4442. Early Child Care and Education Needs Assessment Study Underway for Greater Vergennes Area

Does Addison, Ferrisburgh, Panton, Vergennes and Waltham need more options for child care? That is the question being explored in a small study being undertaken by the Vergennes Children’s Center Study Committee. The Committee is working with the Vergennes Partnership, The Mary Johnson’s Children’s Center in Middlebury, and LandWorks, a local planning firm, to assess the current capacity and future needs of the Greater Vergennes area in regard to providing quality child care for newborns to 5 year-olds.

The Greater Vergennes area is currently served by a variety of licensed providers and registered home providers, including the Evergreen Preschool and the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union (ANWSU) Early Education Program in Vergennes. Each provider has different options and requirements for enrollment, as well as diverse curriculums. The committee is looking for feedback from residents and employees that work in the Greater Vergennes area about their child care needs. Surveys will first be distributed on Town Meeting Day in each of the five towns, as well as online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/greater_vergennes_child_care_survey.
